"Maybe it's better to have gotten it right and been happy for one day instead of living a lifetime of wrongs."
AUTHOR: Adam Silvera
the title is a huge fucking spoiler btw.
the book sets the theme with the introduction of a company, Death-Cast, who through some sort of (screwed up) technology is able to identify and inform people about their death approximately 24 hrs before it.
Mateo is a closeted teen, whose mother died in childbirth and whose father is in a coma
Rufus is an orphan who loves his friends dearly but makes one wrong move
both get their Death-Cast call on the same night. both are in need of company, both find each other. This is their story of coming to terms with their deaths and the finding meaning of it all.
this story was told through multiple P.OV.s, with many lives intertwining with others.
The book tackles the theme very well. despite the fact that the two characters were gonna die, i was able to push that aside and enjoy the humor and heartwarming tidbits the book had to offer.
sideline characters had a role in the whole outplay of the story. i found myself enjoying some smaller stories in the book.
honestly, this gave me so much hope... which is surprising cause hello? the title.
reading it, i found myself understanding both of them, rooting for them, Reading their friendship form and then grow, was the most comforting thing ever.
i feel like the author did an absolutely amazing job with the book, it was well tied and even though it didn't leave all loose ends tucked, it left me content with the story
