"History remains with the people who will appreciate it most"
AUTHOR: Adam Silvera
The premise is simple, Griffin is 17, and his ex boyfriend/still best friend/favorite human, theo has died.
The only person who can comprehend his pain? Theo's boyfriend before he died, Jackson
With this, Adam Silvera has delved into a conversation about love, grief, loss, and mourning.
The book is a collection of account from history, when Theo was still alive as well as present, the aftermath of Theo's death where the three characters Jackson, Wade and Griffin deal with the accompanying grief their own ways
Griffin is an interesting character to read and go through this experience with, he has OCD and his grief seemed very realistic and understandable to read, as if coming from someone who had the experience.
Adam Silvera has a way with words and he paints beautiful pictures with them, throughout the book I found really beautiful insights, observations and emotions expressed so amazingly, that i wanted to write them all down.
this was an interesting concept, and it was met with an equally impressive completion. i think it's very important for teens my age, to start learning with grief at a very young age, and this book was a good lesson for the same. letting go, being sensitive towards others dealing with the same are important lessons for anyone in life.
This book is quote different from most LGBTQ+ novels, with supportive parents and friends. its open about sex and has a cleverly subtle emphasis on protection
However, as the book proceeds everything starts leaving it's black and white boundaries and merging into a gray, and I found myself confused between right and wrong as well.
Like most teens, Griffin has his own vices and coping mechanisms that are obviously not right, but dealing with them as is done in the book was really appreciated
unlike most YAs I read, I found the way this book ending quite satisfying.
