AUTHOR: Mary Kubica⁣

Clara is a new mother once again, and couldn't love her husband more⁣

But a tragic accident kills Nick and leaves her 4 year old daughter as the sole witness of her father's last moments.⁣

Now, as nightmares grip Maisie and unsettling details appear, Clara finds herself questioning her husband's death, was it really an accident ? Or is something wrong?⁣

This book, and it's ending is not for everyone.⁣

Let me start by that.⁣

The book flows smooth, getting fast paced very quick, with accounts of present through Clara's eyes and the past through Nick's⁣

Each flashback led me towards a different conclusion, and everytime I read one, I felt somehow closer to the answer as well as increasingly confused⁣

More importantly, this book deals with Clara's pain very well, we see her struggling as a mother, with her body still changing, with two children to care for and a daughter that needs answers. All the while she's also struggling as a new widow.⁣

Nick is an interesting character as well, he's a doting husband and a great father and sometimes (well, a lot of times) I found myself amazed by his love for his family.⁣

The ending as mentioned, was well not for me, though it's a genius one I just found myself unsettled by the amount of things that weren't dealt with⁣. Though the biggest question had been answered, it wasn't the answer I was expecting.

The story deals with grief and how sudden death can be, how unsettling and how  unfair it is and this attempt was commendable. ⁣

The book also begs the dilemma if one can truly know a person, and if hiding hard truths is ok if you want to protect someone.⁣

Overall, this isn't the best thriller I've read but it's an experimental one for sure, so those open to such kind of books, can pick it up

This is an interesting read for sure.
